Manang rock climbing topo guide

Nepal, renowned for its majestic himalayan peaks, has now added a thrilling dimension to its adventure tourism with the completion of the country’s first-ever rock climbing topoguide.

The Manang rock climbing development project, led by IFMGA-certified mountain guide Vinayak Jaya Malla, marks a pivotal moment in Nepal rock climbing history. This initiative started back in 2016, with the vision of developing and promoting rock climbing in Nepal.

Between 2022 & 2023, Vinayak and his fellow climbers returned to Manang to expand & gather necessary information of the climbing routes, with the goal of compiling them into the topoguide. In June 2022, the team bolted 27 new sport climbing routes in Bhratang, Manang with the support of Petzl Foundation and Peak XV Trade, making it one of Nepal’s biggest rock climbing spots.

With over 40 documented routes across four distinct crags, Manang caters to every climber’s ambition. From the beginner-friendly slopes of Bastien’s Garden, featuring the route Anything is Possible (5b), to the adrenaline-pumping challenges of Road Side Cliff, featuring the route Buddha Said Maybe (8a+, 8b)- Manang welcomes climbers of all levels.

The completion of Nepal’s first rock climbing topoguide is not just a milestone for climbers, but also a significant step for Manang’s tourism growth. With the expansion of motorable roads impacting traditional trekking, rock climbing could emerge as a new promising niche, attracting climbers from Nepal & around the world.

Rock climbing in Manang is more than just challenging your physical boundaries and tackling vertical obstacles. It is about community, collaboration, and a shared vision for sustainable tourism development. This rock climbing development project has always been a collaborative effort between passionate climbers and the local community.

So, whether you’re a seasoned climber or an aspiring adventurer, Manang welcomes you with open arms. Pack your bags, grab the topoguide, and embark on your unforgettable journey to Manang.

Discover the thrill of the climb, immerse yourself in the community, and be part of Nepal’s exciting new chapter of sport climbing development.
